our nation’s capEDal

Sunday, April 27th, 2003

Yet another post that took me way too long to write, but if you guys only knew how much crap I have to do just to write an entry this high-quality. Anyway, last weekend I went to DC for Passover (it’s a Jewish holiday for all of you ignorant punks out there, heheh just playin’) and to visit my boy Ed at American University. American was actually my number two pick for college, but I ended up going to my number one, Denver… but back to the story. Thursday my cousin David and I(I was born in DC so all my family is there) picked up Ed at a bus stop where he was harrassing some scared little kids, nah he wouldn’t do that… anymore. We had the seder which was fine, but then we went to his dorm and the fun began. Let’s see here… Thursday nite I don’t think we did too much. It was pretty late when we finally got to his dorm, so we sat in his room and exchanged some of our newest pictures of random stuff and watched some weird movie on TV with his crazy funny roommate Dan. Dan is from Boston and he’s nuts. I love the kid… crazy Boston accent and pranks his friends with soundboards constantly (several of which I got to participate in the next nite). On Friday morning I helped Ed and his crew sell some of their a cappella CDs. Ed is in an all-male group at AU called ‘On a Sensual Note’. I saw them perform in the middle of the cafeteria… they’re damn good. After the adventures in sales, we did a radio show. You probably know that I have been doing Peety’s Playhouse on KVDU since I came to Denver, and Ed was obviously a loyal listener and fan of the show, so he got a show on American’s station too. His show is kickass and it’s called ‘Radioed’. If you can’t figure out why his name is called that, just stop reading. I’m surprised you can read at all. Anyway, we were supposed to have a 2 hour show but we did a 3 hour because we were having a great time. It was really fun… the station there is in somewhat disrepair but we had a sweet time. Lots of good music, lots of funny stupid banter. Oh yes… it was great. After that, we watched 8 Mile in Mike’s room… it was the first time I saw the extra battles. Good LORD they’re awesome. Colin had been telling me about them for weeks and I finally got to see them. So quality. Before the movie we went to the campus McDonalds. They have a freaking touchscreen where you can put in your order… customize it and everything… so they CAN’T get it wrong. Simply amazing. Ed and Dan got the extra large chocolate shake…. 42 OUNCES! They were like paintcans of shake… awesome.
Saturday was the big adventure day. Ed and I woke up sorta early and took the bus into Georgetown. On the bus was this one crazy dirty guy babbling jibberish and banging his arm against the window. That was entertaining enough, but then this insane woman got on the bus and sat in the front corner at the windows saying things like “Russia….Russia….. kidnapped again…. white car going up the hill…”. That was also hilarious, and she was flicking off everyone that got on or off the bus. You’d think that would be enough entertainment for one bus ride… but no. This guy got on the bus and we could barely not crack up right there. He looked like he thought he was the mayor of a city that only existed in his mind. Take a look at this guy! We were dying… he had a suit, a fedora, a cane, and a pipe. WOW. Anyway, when we got to Georgetown we took a couple of cool pics and then went to this crazy store with the coolest clothes ever. I almost bought this green fishnet-style longsleeve shirt. I coulda pulled that thing off, kid. Word UP. After that store we went to Urban Outfitters which was really cool. I almost never go to places like that… I should do it more. I bought a sweet fedora for $15 and Ed found some sweet ghetto tshirts and one of them actually had our hometown in IL written on the back. So weird. After our mini shopping adventure, we got to some state administration buildings and other behind-the-scenes facilities like that. We wanted to get to the big monuments and stuff, but we didn’t know exactly where we were, so we got to the freeway and….well…. ran across. It was crazy, and if you’ve been following with the pics in this post, then you saw just how funny the dash across was. We got to the Reflecting Pool, which was the coolest part of the day. We found a piece of concrete about 5-6 feet out in the water, so we both got on it and took some awesome pictures. That was really fun and tons of people were looking at us laughing and what not. Good times. Later, we chilled in Ed’s room, looked at our pictures, and then at like 2am we went to this pretty ghetto greasy-spoon place called ‘Steak n Egg’. It was deeeeeeeeeeeeeelicious. The food was amazing, the staff was pushy, the people were loud and dirty… it was my kind of place. I wish there were more restaurants like that. The guy behind the counter, ‘Oz’, was the fastest man I’ve ever seen. He made everyone’s food in ways I didn’t think were possible. To put stuff in omelets, he would put the bacon or mushrooms or whatever on the spatula, then roll up the semi-cooked eggs onto the metal part and then unroll it onto the grill… it was AMAZING.
The next was going home day. I took the subway to the airport, and guess who I met in line for the security check? RUSSELL SIMMONS! That’s right, ladies and gents, the father of Def Jam records. It was crazy. I recognized him right away and I was like “Mr. Simmons, you rock man.” and he goes “Hey thanks a lot bro. I’m glad to have you as a fan.” What a cool guy! So I had a really great time in DC. I hope to go visit Ed again sometime this summer or next year or something. Oh yeah, I gotta give Ed credit for a few of the pictures in this post. He gave me all of his so I could use the best from both of our collections from that day. Recognize our skills or die.
Friday nite I saw Sum 41 live… I’ll post about it in a few days and a couple other things.

devastating backlog

Thursday, April 24th, 2003

I realize that I haven’t yet posted about my trip to DC. I will do so this weekend… sorting through all of my and Ed’s pics is quite a chore. I have a few good stories for the post, so I don’t want to post now while I don’t have much time and have it not be a very good post. I also have a few quickie episodes to keep you freaks up on.
I know I usually don’t post really personal stuff, but this has been at the back of the mind for a while, and just recently it has gotten worse.
Remember Carley? The girl I was dating and madly in love with for senior year of high school? Well, she and I had discussed the possibility of breaking up for my first year of college because we wouldn’t be able to be with each other much at all during it anyway. We were both resistant, and at the beginning of this school year I told her that I thought that we shouldn’t be ‘together’ while I’m in my freshman year here at DU. She was very very sad and hurt, but understood where I was coming from. We didn’t talk for a while because I didn’t want to talk to her like I used to and not have her be my girlfriend. I knew that if I could, I would relive senior year over and over and over again, but I knew that it wasn’t an option and I didn’t want to be tied down during my first year of college. After two months, and talking only a few times, I started calling her more and more, because I really missed her. Over winter break, we spent some good time together. After it, we talked more and more on the phone and then spring break was coming. I was thinking about asking her to be with me again during spring break because I missed her too much. I told her about this on the phone about a week before spring break, and then she said “Well, there’s something I need to tell you before the break. I’m dating Matt.”

My heart stopped.
I couldn’t breathe, think, or speak.
Matt? Matt Davidson? The kid I was best best best and only friends with kindergarten through 8th grade?! It can’t be. Now, Matt and I haven’t been close at all since junior high, but all my memories of friendship before that age involve him. All.

Then she tells me that they have been dating since the end of Winter Break, and that she is in love with him. For the next day or two after she told me this, I could barely function. Over the past few months, I have put it aside but she still comes into my mind once every few days. I either miss her with all my heart, or hate her and never want to see her again. I’m almost positive I would never be with her again after this… we really broke each other’s hearts.
Recently I’ve been having nightmares about it. I’m not going to go into details about them, but I wake up shaking about once a week. I can’t help it… I try not to think about her at all, but I can’t control it while I’m asleep.
I don’t know why exactly I posted this… I guess I just needed to get it off my chest. It’s been bothering me a lot and I need to forget about it all. I’ve been looking for a new love to distract me, and despite the fact that I can’t feel anything but pain towards Carley right now, it’s going to take one hell of a girl to replace her.

happy birthday to meeeeeee

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2003

It’s my birthday!!!!! I’m finally 19. It’s weird to be 19…. people take 19 more seriously than 18… I don’t really sound like a kid any more. That’s really creepy… but it’s all good because I know I’m still nothing but a kid. So far I have gotten very few ‘Happy Birthday’s from people here, but I don’t blame them because most people don’t know that it is today. On the flipside, lots of people have given their good wishes and stuff on AIM and my site, and that rocks. I was hoping to get maybe one or two donations, but so far I’ve gotten 4-5 items from my wishlist!!! You guys rock! I gotta run to English but I’ll post asap.

Holy CRAP I got some donations!! I’m making a special ‘COOLEST G27 FANS’ page thanking those who donate… but for now, I’d like to thank Lennart, Tony from X-reality.com, and GenevaPDM for getting me stuff for my birthday! I’ll soon put your pic and why you rock up on the new page I’m making.
I did it… I made the Thank You page. It’s under construction because I haven’t gotten everyone’s pictures yet, but it’s on the way.

**Monday update: I’m home from DC… it was really fun and I took about 150 pictures. I really need to sort them because I can’t upload every single one. Holy crap tomorrow is my birthday! The big 1-9! My partner in crime Colin is coming to chill with me, because we have the same birthday. Weird, huh? PLEASE get me something from my wishlist or make a Paypal/Amazon Donation… I’m a poor college student, and I have to pay for the hosting and domain for my site. It’s pretty expensive because my site takes up a lot of space with my huge gallery and all the bandwidth you freaks take up. So please help me out by getting me *something* for my birthday? Thanks a lot guys… you can make this site keep running =D.

So get this – I’m at the Denver airport at my gate, and I see this sign that says “Wireless internet access here”, service provided by AT&T. I tried to connect, and sure enough, I’m freakin’ online at the airport? How cool is that? Today I’ll be flying almost all day, and tonite I’ll finally arrive in DC for Passover and to see my boy Ed. I’ll be there all weekend, but I brought my camera and my laptop so I just might give you crazy kids some updates. Tomorrow, Ed and I are going to be doing a radio show on his (American University’s) network station. I don’t know exactly when it’ll be on, but I know the URL to the station is http://www.american.edu/wvau/listen.html, so please check my site for when I found out when the show will be. I’ll IM Eddie and ask him to leave a comment or shout about when the show will be and in what timezones and all that crap. Wish me luck, and check out my last patheric post begging all you g27 fans for a birthday present! Heheh…. later guys.

The Ed and Peet show will be on today(Friday):
3-5 Pacific
4-6 Mountain
5-7 Central
6-8 Eastern
… to listen, open up “http://wvau.ods.org” in Winamp, Real Player, Media Player, iTunes… whatever you like.

Oh man, I just had to post this. I’m sitting here at the gate, and there is this crazy lady right behind me with one of those Taco Bell-esque Chiwawas…. and it’s wearing a tshirt. She’s changed it’s shirt at least 3 times, and she just said it weighs 4 and a half pounds. The damn thing is all excited and it keeps yipping at everything, and I just heard the lady say “Oh baby, you’re a contradiction in terms. The front end of you is barking and the back end of you is wagging.” Do these people know that they’re crazy?!

dj peety back again

Holy crap – ! It’s almost my birthday! That’s right kiddies, your daring and fearless webmaster Peety is turning 19 on Tuesday, April 22nd. I’m psyched to finally leave this halfway young adult age of 18. Doesn’t 19 sound so much more grown up (even though I’m not at all heheh)? So in honor of this momentous occasion, PLEASE get me something from my wishlist – a couple movies? A book and a Spiderman action figure? That SUPER DOPE WIGGITY PHAT digicam? Any donations/Amazon gift certificates/wishlist purchases will be GREATLY appreciated and I’ll give you props on my main page and I’m gonna make a page of people who donate to my site, because those people KICK ASS. Click on Donate or Wishlist at the bottom of the post…. pleeeeease?!
I have some new stuff to post, but I also have a lot of work to do, so I’ll do it later. For now, I wanted to tell you freaks to listen to my internet radio show this Wednesday. Here’s the info:
Attention: My radio show will be on Wednesday, so check out http://kvdu.du.edu on Wednesday from 10-12 Pacific, 11-1 Mountain, 12-2 Central, and 1-3 Eastern. Please listen in and tell your friends! IM me at KVDURadio during the show, no matter who you are, and I’ll give you a shoutout and the number to call in. Hope you listen! It’s gonna be a great show.

Oh yeah – I just added a link to the g27 store I made a long time ago and haven’t looked at for a while. There aren’t many products in there, but the ones I do have are pretty cool and over the next few months I’ll be adding more and more cool g27 (and other random funny stuff) to the store. Purchasing items doesn’t make me any money for now, but you can ride in style wearing a sweet g27 jersey or hat or whatever. Heh. Stay tuned for updates about it.

Ahhh… finally! Ok, for all of you who had no idea what was going on for the past few weeks, the host I was on disappeared and left me stranded for a few days with no site. All my files were still on their parent company’s server, so I bought a month of hosting from them so I could move to a more suitable host and I have finally got that done. I never posted about spring break, because I took around 300 pictures and it took a while to sort through, crop, resize, and caption all of them. I admit I haven’t been working on them 24.7 for weeks, but people don’t realize just how much time and effort go into my posts – that’s why I hate it when people only like my site for when I’m live on my webcam. So, here goes the little story of spring break.
A day or two before my (and many other people’s) flights and rides home for spring break, Denver had a snowstorm. This was not just any snowstorm – we haven’t seen snow like this for 90 years or something crazy like that. It snowed and snowed and snowed, and we ended up getting 4 freaking FEET of it. Needless to say, this messed up almost everyone’s flights and vacation plans. As much as I was bummed out because I had to stay here for an extra two days, the crew and I made the best of it. The first day we had a good ol’ fashioned snowbrawl. It was a combination snowball fight/no holds barred steel cage wrestling match. I didn’t feel like getting a beatdown from my boys, so I mostly stayed on the side and took pictures. That was pretty crazy and a lot of fun. The snow was so high that no one could go anywhere; everything was closed, the roads were a mess, and then? They CLOSED the airport. That’s right, folks – closed. Not like the flights were delayed, or lot of them were cancelled, no. The whole airport SHUT DOWN like a Windows NT box with a Trojan horse. So we were stuck for a second day. That next day was exponentially better than the first. Wanna know why?
Parking structure sports. We dug a path out two the two-story parking structure and, you guessed it, dove off into the snow. It was awesome to say the least. We first all jumped off the ground level, but it was just a matter of time until we marched up the stairs and jumped off the top one. I gave Matty my camera to try to get a few of me diving off the top, but he isn’t the best photographer and since I’ve got such insane hops, he only got my bottom half. Whatever… it was really fun. Britt and Eric made a ramp a few feet away from the parking garage, and both of them got some air, but then this random kid comes up and hits the ramp by jumping off the upper level of the structure… it was sick. After we did that, Matty and I teamed up against V and Lindsey in a snowbrawl, and we, needless to say, kicked their asses all over the place. Lindsey has horrible aim and nailed V in the face with snowballs about…. a bazillion times. So that was a great day.
The next day, I got a ride with a few kids to the airport early in the morning so I could try to get on a flight home. My mom is a travel agent, so I was talking to her on my cell phone every hour or so giving her updates and she would tell me how she had gotten me on like 6 different flights which was very comforting because when I got to the airport at noon, it was chaos. I live in Chicago, and we have one of the top 3 busiest airports in the world (O’Hare represent!), and I have never seen an airport as busy as I did that day. I got to the airport at noon, and I was waiting in the ridiculous “grand-opening-of-the-brand-new-rollercoaster”-esque line, and it was 2:45 when I finally got to the makeshift ticket booth that they had set up. I was psyched to finally get through the line (I wasn’t even sure if I had been in the right line because I couldn’t see the front of it until about 20 minutes before I got to the counter), and then hit security. Security was very smooth, and the line went by really fast… I was relieved because I needed to get on a 3:20 flight. So I got to the airport at noon, and made my 3:20 flight by about 5 minutes. The weird thing is, my plane was half empty. I think it’s because so many people couldn’t get to the airport or had just given up on traveling for those few days. Whatever, I was glad to fly home, despite the inconvenience. I had a whole row to myself, so I had enough space to stretch out and watch a movie, and take a few really cool pictures.
At home, I worked for all the weekdays (Friday, Monday, and Tuesday), and I babysat for Reilly and Keegan on Saturday nite. I got to chill with my boys Josh(we got pulled over but the cop let us go, Josh insists that it was because they’re both bald) and Kent which was sweet, but none of my other friends were home which sucked. I really miss Ed and Colin the most… I haven’t seen them for a while, and Ed might not be coming home for summer… he was gonna try to intern for Ted Kennedy or something (refilling his flask with Everclear and other odd jobs). Good luck with that, buddy =p. I can’t wait for this summer – Colin and I are gonna go on so many adventures and stuff… I love that kid. He’s as crazy as I am. But I’m getting off the topic. While I was home I worked at Brandtrust in the city as I did before, and I took about a million city pictures and a few panoramas, many of which I have yet to label and stitch together and stuff.
Wow, that post was ridiculous. I’m glad I finally got all of it down. I’ll post sometime next week – I was supposed to go to Notre Dame this Thursday til Sunday to see Good Charlotte and New Found Glory with Less Than Jake with Dan, but he has a track meet so I’m not going. I was SO pissed when he told me, and he feels horrible about it, and says he’s gonna make it up to me even better than what it was gonna be. We’ll see…

*Note to self: Write a new rant about how no one can seem to figure out how to use their own computer, or even know who makes it for starters.
