hot and what not

Thursday, May 29th, 2003

I have a post all typed up, but it’s 80 million degrees outside and my laptop keeps overheating and not turning on and giving me problems. I hate when stuff like this happens. I’ll try to fix it whenever I can to upload the pictures that go with it and what not, but chances are I’m not going to be able to make any sort of good post until I get home to Chicago on June 6th. Yeah, it sucks. I know… I want to post and keep you crazy kids updated with my various adventures and antics. Stay tuned and root for my ill laptop to make it through. Oh yeah, wish me luck on finals.

ATTENTION: My radio show will be on this wednesday. Click ‘G27 Radio’ for times and what not. Call in and talk to me, DJ Peety!

Oh, I just remembered I never posted about this. A few weeks ago, I was walking home from the lightrail station on my way back from a club. I was hungry and I saw that Burger King’s drive thru was open but the main room wasn’t. I walked up to the window and this fat angry black woman looks right at me and says:
“Get away from the window or I’ll call the cops!!”
I was like, what the HELL is she talking about?! and I said “What? I just want some food…”
And without calming down at all, she shouted “It is illegal to walk up to any drive thru in Colorado.”
I was really confused but said “I’m sorry, I had no idea, calm down. I just wanted to order some food.”
She was still pissed. “You have to have either a car or a bike.”
“So I can’t get food unless I’m sitting on a bike right now?”
“Yes. Now leave before I call the police.”

It was weird as hell, and I walked away hungry but laughing my ass off at how worked up she was over nothing. What a nite that was.

**6/11 UPDATE: I should be getting my laptop back today, so when I do I’ll make sure to post asap.
**6/12 UPDATE: Stupid CDW, ordering one replacement part at a time. Ok, I’m supposed to get my laptop back Friday and THEN I’ll post. I’d apologize for this taking so long, but it’s CDW’s fault that they order a system board, then two days later a keyboard and cooling fan. Roooar. I know the Shoutbox is messed up – my host is fixing PHP problems. Stay tuned kiddies.

Here at DU, fraternities, sororities and organizations throw bar parties. Frats and sors aren’t allowed to throw parties in their houses, so they rent our a bar/club and only DU kids are allowed in for that night. They’re always really fun because going out to clubs has gotten a little bit old – since I’m only 19 I can only get into a few clubs in the city, and so I see the same kids there every damn weekend, and never anyone I know. At bar parties, it’s all DU kids that don’t go out dancing much, so whenever I battle anyone I can usually kick some crazy ass up in this mug. Anyway, last weekend one of the frats threw a bar party at some mansion called Paddy Murphy, and it was $10 to get in. If you had a 21+ ID, you get a wristband and free alcohol all night. Since everyone and their cousin has a fake ID, everyone got TRASHED, and much more intoxicated than normal since the booze was free. I of course don’t drink, so I just had fun all night walking around and laughing at people being smashed. This one really snobby mean girl ATE IT on the dance floor, in a crowd of people. She just went down face first and didn’t even brace herself with her hands. The large number of people slowed her decent, but nevertheless it was probably the funniest thing I saw all night.
This party was nuts; as sad as it is that everyone needs to get smashed to have a good time, its beyond amusing to watch all these drunken idiots stumble around, fall down, try to dance, get in fights about nothing, and say stupid crap to each other and me. Britt’s roommate Brock is ridiculous when he’s drunk – he always comes up to me like “Peet, dude, what’s up man? Go hit on that chick. Kiss her man, do it!” I’m almost going “Brock, dude, how freaking trashed are you?” He always goes to up girls and tries to take their drinks and use their phones and stuff, and messes around with everyone in sight and never remembers a THING the next morning. He poured a drink on MacKenzie on purpose and her ex boyfriend was pissed. He came up to me and asked me what the hell just happened, and I told him that I didn’t know who spilled on her so Brock wouldn’t catch a beating for his moronic actions. The next morning at breakfast I told him how I saved his ass and he barely believed me. One of these days I’m sure he’s gonna get himself into some trouble, but for now, I’m trying to cover for him. Oh yeah, V brought her friend Dani to the party, and Dani’s really fine, so that was cool. I love Dani, she’s so brash and sarcastic and funny. I need to find more girls like that around here.

This Friday Nikki is coming to Colorado to visit her uncle and driving to DU to come to see Good Charlotte, New Found Glory and MxPx with me at Red Rocks!!! I’m so excited, it’s gonna make for quite the post. We’re going to try to get backstage and get some pictures with the bands – that would be the coolest thing ever. Nikki’s a huge pop punk freak like I am, so we’re gonna go crazy during the show.
Saturday morning I’m flying to Providence, Rhode Island for my sister’s college graduation. It’s so weird for my ‘big’(I’ve actually got almost a foot on her) sis to be out of college. All grow’d up! I’m not even done with my freshman year yet, and she already had her last class and after this weekend, she’s DONE with Brown. I would be proud of her, but she’s brilliant and I never had any doubt that she would kick college’s ass from day one. Go Anna!

I make stupid jokes, play great music, talk to myself, give away crappy prizes for trivia, make fun of people outside the studio, so much great entertainment!

Just to kick off this review, I’m going to sum up this movie in a word – “wow.” I’ve been a huge fan of The Matrix since it first came out in 1999, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting the sequel for the four years since the first. I was lucky enough to see the first showing on the first night it was showing. I saw it last night, Wednesday. I found out that the rule is if the movie ends on the opening date, it can start on the day before. So last night I went to the 10:10pm show with my friends Neal and Zarah. Neal is also a Matrix freak so we were endlessly discussing what might happen in the movie and how it would be presented. Once the line started moving, the conversation abruptly ended and our only objective was to get into the theater and find good seats. We ended up in around the 5th row, so we were pretty damn close to the screen, but it made the move much more immersive.
Ok, the movie itself. If you haven’t seen it, you can still read this because I’m not going to spoil anything, and I’ll only mention things in the previews. The plot was at times, a bit confusing, but all was cleared up with a few moments of reflection on what was just said – especially at the end! The love story between Neo and Trinity was well played out, echoed the first movie well, and actually had a few good moments of laughter. The minimal points of comedy in the movie were quick and pulled off without getting goofy – they each had a dark, Matrix feel – perfect execution. The whole movie was about choice, destiny, power, and control. It’s obvious that the producers have done their religious and philosophical readings. Ok, onto the stunts and effects.
The fight scenes were absolutely ridiculous. They were long, fast, and brilliantly choreographed – some using bold, amazing special effects, and some using subtle, aerobatic stunts that are so seamless it looks like they didn’t practice or use wires. The more produced fight scenes were so overwhelming they were almost excessive. Several times during the 4 minute long double-time fight scenes I thought to myself, “Holy crap, is this ever gonna end?” Trust me, this didn’t detract from the fight scenes at all, but I think another minute added to each one and you might not be able to take it all in. The fight against the Smiths was seemingly neverending. They just kept multiplying and multiplying, and Neo just kept on kicking ass. And kick ass he did – not with the exact ease as he did at the end of the first movie, but nonetheless he was amazing. Trinity and Morpheus laid their usual beat-downs upon the candy asses of security guards and agents alike(well, the agents were a lot tougher).
The freeway scene. It just wouldn’t end. It kept going on and on and topping itself over and over with a cooler effect every few seconds. The ending of the freeway scene was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. Maybe it’s just because I was 9 feet from the screen, hehe.
I will admit that I was giddy in my seat several times during the movie. I’m no stranger to great special effects and brilliant cinematography, but my jaw dropped at least 3 times while watching The Matrix Reloaded. Go see it. Go now. Wear all black and sunglasses. Ok maybe not that one. Just go experience it.

In the midst of switching over to new host servers, I forgot to post about two mini-adventures I had with Collin. Not ‘really tall partner in crime from home’ Colin, this is a kid I met here at DU. See? He even spells his name differently. A few weeks ago, Collin and I cruised around downtown Denver in his uncle’s phiznatty H2. That’s right kiddies, we were rollin’ in an H-Tizzy. We didn’t end up going to any clubs, but we had fun nonetheless. The next nite, I went to the Nuggets vs Wizards game with Collin and his fraternity. I don’t wanna join a fraternity, but they had extra tickets so I tagged along. It was Michael Jordan’s last game ever in Denver, which wasn’t a huge deal for me being from Chicago… I’ve seen him in his best years, but it was still sweet. Every time he even touched the ball, everyone was going nuts. It was a fun nite… especially the halftime show. It was one of the weirdest and funniest things I’ve ever seen. Those three inflatable creatures ran around and performed ‘Bye Bye Bye’, dance moves and all. Hilarious.
The 22nd was my birthday. It was awesome. I didn’t get that many ‘Happy Birthday’s from people here, because I didn’t tell anyone, but I sure did online. My hetero life-mate Danno didn’t get me a present, which I really didn’t care about, so he had like 30 of his friends all IM me at once with “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!” It was crazy. People actually got me stuff for my birthday off my wishlist, and I made a special page for those elite few who are cool enough to get me something.
Colin and I must be cosmic twins or something, because we’re partners in crime and we have the same birthday, and we have similar interests but very different abilities. We can both dance pretty well, beatbox, freestyle(we both suck but we try), and we like the same music. On the flipside, he is 6’5”, big and strong, and I’m like 5’11”, fast and agile. We’re very opposite in that, and yet never have a bad time together. Ever. Anyway, he goes to CSU which is like 45 minutes north of DU so he came down for OUR birthday. We went to Hamburger Stand for dinner, and I had to deal with my insane grandparents’ birthday call. After that, we hijacked KVDU and had quite the time. We sang, we danced, we freestyled, we beatboxed, we mixed, it was crazy-go-nuts. Before he went home, we snapped a few cool shots on Driscoll Bridge. Good times. We’re both working in downtown Chicago this summer, so we’re gonna go on tons of adventures. We’re both psyched.
More recently, I went to the Sum 41 show with Britt. Make fun of my musical taste all you want, but pop punk owns. At first, we kind of shied away from the mosh pit in fear that we would be leaving to the hospital rather than back to DU, but eventually we got right in there and regulated. Apparently we weren’t in the ‘huge, ripped, angry guys’ mosh pit, but the ‘somewhat younger, less violent guys and girls’ pit. It was fun instead of life-threatening, and tons of girls came up to us, asking if we would lift them to crowd surf, we obliged =D. Sum 41 rocked the hizzy and we left the Fillmore with only minor bruises… we wore them proudly.
Now I’m finally getting to more current stuff. A few days ago I met this girl named Stephanie… ok, lemme backtrack. I had sort of met her at a bar party about a month ago hosted by the dance team (which she is now the secretary of), and then recently I saw her and her friend Cassie at a club and got a ride home from them. We exchanged numbers so we could go clubbing together sometimes, and then last Wednesday I saw her sitting outside the booth while I was doing my radio show. I ran out and talked to her, we exchanged AIM names, and later started talking online. We had a huge discussion about our favorite bands – she knows and likes so many great bands that I love and no one else has ever heard of. It’s amazing… I mentioned obscure white r&b singers, and she knew them! She is at heart a pop punk fan like I am… and get this, she is half west-African and half Norwegian. Cool combo, huh? Yeah, she’s quite a cutie.
Anyway, I got us free tickets to the Zebrahead show at the Ogden last weekend, and she said she’d love to go. Before we even got to our seats, this tall, skinny thug kid comes right up to her and in this Cro-Magnon voice goes “Hey, can I use your cell phone for a second? Just a quick call.” She told him she didn’t like letting people use her phone, and he stood there in silence for a good two minutes until asking again. What a weird. Anyway, we sat on the little wall that divides the pit from the seats… we had a great spot. The Kottonmouth Kings were headlining the tour, supported by Phunk Junkeez, Riddlin’ Kids, and Zebrahead. I have the KK album as mp3s on my computer, and they’re really not very good. Every song is about getting trashed in one way or another. Laaame. “Oh, really, you smoke and drink? Oh, you smoke too? Wow, you drink?” OK, GUYS, I GET IT. I didn’t know beforehand, but apparently Kottonmouth Kings fans are in the same camp as ICP juggalos. So there we were in the pit, a boyband-looking dirty blonde curly haired DJ and a sweet little cute half-black girl… surrounded by large, obnoxious, dirty kids wearing filthy clothes and sporting white and black face paint. Needless to say, we felt a little bit out of place but we made the most of it. We were sitting next to this idiot girl who we prayed was drunk or high or something. She asked me if I knew the bass player in Phunk Junkeez. I told her that his name was Billy Dee Williams and that we were related. She believed me. Stephie and I were dying. We were trying not to be loud about it, but come on. She believed me! What a moron. We sat through Phunk Junkeez, then at first we thought the Riddlin’ Kids were Zebrahead but then realized our mistake(that Zebrahead banner was a bit confusing). Finally, the almighty Zebrahead came out and rocked. They were awesome, and we were loving every second of it. They actually had a girl and a guy go up on stage and give another guy a lapdance… they were both horrible at it. We left after Zebrahead and went outside, where the lead singer of Riddlin’ Kids was chillin’ and I met him. He’s a nice dude. A few minutes and a blown red light later, I were back at my dorm where I came back to look at pics. Stephanie had a 6 hour dance practice the next day so she went right to bed. Most of my pics were really blurry because I and the bands were rocking out pretty hard.
Today after English me and my boy Andrew played on this huge bouncy castle slide that was on the quad lawn. We were there for a good hour, and we were both gymnasts so we were pulling some phat tricks. I managed to pull off a double front flip, misty, brandy, and a backflip 1 ½, landed on my back, and turned that into a front flip. I’ve gotta get one of those sometime.
Only one more month of school… I’m psyched to finally be going home.

Ok, I promise to post really soon. For now, I want to tell you about a game that I am a beta tester for. It’s called There… trying thinking of The Sims Online but waaaay better. It’s a 3d world that you live and play and chat in… sort of like a cooperative first-person-shooter with no guns… or violence… or shooting… nevermind. Anyway, it is currently being developed, and my buddy Louis from xorsyst.com told me I should sign up to be a beta tester. I did, got accepted, and now I play it every day or two. It’s sooo fun! You can hoverboard, drive a buggy with a friend, play paintball, design clothes, whatever you want. I tried to make my avatar look as much like me as possible. What do you think? I know it’s not perfect, but it’s as close as I could get given the options. Anyway, we had a rap battle the other nite and I regulated. Check it out. Yeah, I put it down on fools. What’s up now, huh? Ok I gotta finish my English paper, but I will post really soon.
