back in da club

Saturday, August 30th, 2003

There really aren’t very many good underage clubs in Chicago. There are tons of great 21+ clubs, I mean, Chicago has got it goin’ on in the nightlife scene, but I don’t have a fake ID so I can’t partake in tha partay. My partner in crime Colin and I went to the one underage club relatively close to my house once, and it was pretty lame. Fake kids dancing poorly to bad pop techno. Eeeew.
On the other hand, Denver has a very happening underage club scene. If you’ve been reading The Adventures of Peet via g27 for a while, you’ll know that last year I shook my groove thang many times last year. I hadn’t gone clubbing since, wow, a while, I don’t know how long it has been. Last night I went to Bash with my dormmates Tom, Ben, Katie, and Carolynn. We got there sort of early, so there were very few people dancing when we arrived. I immediately jumped out into the middle of the floor and got my groove on. Ben is a raver, and we were at a hiphop club, so he asked me to show him a few moves, how to pop n’ lock and what not. I gave him a few tips, thought of a few moves for his personal style, and he picked up on it pretty quick. Once a bunch of people got there, this group of suh-mokin’ Asian girls came in and got up on the mini-stages and started shaking it and droppin’ it like its hot. Whoooo. Gooooood times, Gees. After a while I broke away from the kids I came with and jumped in the middle of a circle of black guys. I busted my stuff and they went OFF. I started dancing and their reaction was a lot like this: “Ohhhh!!! Go white boy! Go white boy! It’s Justin Timberlake! Yeah dog! You’re part of our crew now!” I was cracking up, dancing circles around them all. The 6 of us made a big line and started doing moves in unison, everyone was watching us. SO fun! Then my friend Brittany(a super cute RA friend of mine) showed up with her best friend Jenny. I remember seeing them at clubs last year, and seeing them both on campus. Jenny is a southern girl with the cutest accent and stunning eyes. What a cutie. Anyway, the three of us danced together most of the night, and I protected them from all the dirty guys trying to get with them. They were both a little tipsy, not trashed, but I had to drive them home. We all had a great time, and I hope to go clubbing with them a lot this year. Fun girls.
All of the freshman get here on Monday, I’m kinda psyched. I wanna meet everyone, but I also like having the whole damn campus to myself. It is really weird to have so few people here. For the last two weeks, it has been just me and the RAs. I can blast my music in my room, sing at all times of the night, never have to wait for the elevator… it has been fun. But it will be great to have lots of new kiddies running around here.
I’ve become friends with this RA named Paige. She is painfully cute with the sweetest smile, man, just thinking about her puts a huge smile on my face. I was sitting at lunch in the dining hall and sometime was trying to get past me behind my chair and I was like “Yeah its cool, just squinch by me..” and Paige is walking by and overhears me say that and like jumps over to me and goes “Oh my god, squinch is like the best word ever!” It was adorable. She and I have been talking a lil bit recently. She’s a sweetie, and she’s from Chicago! When she told me that, I told her I was from there too, and for the next few seconds I don’t even know what I said to her, but we were just sort of looking into each other’s eyes and smiling, it was such a weird feeling… my mind kind of went blank and I just was staring and I had this huge smile on my face, and so did she. Damn. As many of you know, I don’t necessarily believe in the same God as most people, but I’d like to thank whatever/whoever is responsible for creating girls that are capable of giving me (and other guys I suppose) sensations like that. I better go work on my computer lab bulletin boards. I’ll try to add some new pictures soon.

the best pup

RIP Hershey – the best dog ever. I’ve had Hershey since we moved to Illinois when I was 5. She was the sweetest dog anyone could ever ask for, smarter than your average pup, and always perfectly behaved. She has been fighting cancer on and off for several years, and yesterday my parents and sister had to put her down back in Chicago. I will always miss you, Hersh, I love you.

on the road

…and I made it!
As many of you Gees know, I left for school on Monday. I started the long drive to Denver at 6am on Monday morning, and drove all day.
The drive was actually not that bad – I expected it to be reeeeally long (ok, I guess it was) but I didn’t get tired. It was weird. Anyway, my first stop was at a McDonalds rest stop about 50 miles from my house for breakfast. I hadn’t been driving for very long; I needed some kind of sign that this was going to be a good trip. Luckily, I saw that sign. Right after I got in line for McDonalds, three really cute girls around my age (one of them was stunning, wow) got in line right behind me and started giggling and stuff. I got my food and sat down, and they sat next to my table. I didn’t talk to them, they were all talking about something, I forget, but it was a great sign and knew that this was going to be a good trip. Rock! So I left there and drove and drove and drove, and drove, and then I drove. I got on route 80 and entered Iowa. There is NOTHING in Iowa. I’ll give you a very concise summary of my experience in Iowa. Farm, farm, farm, seemingly endless farm, rest stop, fa-fa-fa-faaaarm, farm farm farm, 28 more farms, farm, identical rest stop, farm farm. And then? I hit Nebraska. Except for the 30 or so miles of oh-so-stimulating Omaha, the atmosphere of Nebraska was identical to Iowa. I only stopped a few times in both states, just for gas and food. I couldn’t get any cell phone reception, so I couldn’t call Stephie or Colin! Boooo! That sucked. I couldn’t even call my parents and tell them that I wasn’t going to sleep in Lexington, Nebraska like I had planned out. I got to Lexington around 4pm, so I just decided to keep going and going. Much like that small pink bunny with the drum, what was that little fellow’s name? Nevermind.
I stopped at a little Colorado welcome community center. It was totally empty and very cavernous, and soooo echoy! I stood in the middle of it and beatboxed and sang for a good 15 minutes. It sounded amazing, it was echoing like crazy, like I had never heard before. Maybe I’ll bring a mic with me when I drive home and lay down some phat tracks in there. Word? Word. Then I got on route 76. Weirdest. Road. Ever. It felt like I was in a movie – like one of those roads that goes on forever. So strange. It wasn’t endless farms or anything like that, it was just, like, nothing. Some green grass and weird plants on one side of the road, then the road I was on, then the median was the same thing, weird green. The strangest thing was, the median was like 200 feet across to the other side. On the other side of that was the road going the other way, and then more weird green flowers. I drove on that for about 2 hours. So messed up.
When I finally got to campus, they put me in a Centennial Towers room for the night because I wasn’t supposed to be there that night. The next morning I moved into my room in Halls. It’s not bad – I have air conditioning and no roommate. Weeee. I do, although, have an extra set of furniture that I need to get rid of to make my room a LOT bigger. I’ve only decorated a little bit – once I get rid of my extra desk and bed I’ll put up all my posters and stuff.

I’ll add pictures really soon!

50 CCs of fun, stat

Arrrrg! My stupid host backed up too early before he switched my site to its new server and didn’t send over my newest entry. So it is lost forever. Booooo. I am sad. Right now I’m at Colin’s house chillin and such. First off, last week we went on a few driving adventures to hospitals and banks… lots of pictures. I’ll post a few soon, I promise. I’m driving to school next Monday, that is gonna kick ass! I don’t have to cram all my stuff into two bags, I get to bring a couch, and… ::drumroll::…. I got a new stereo in my car! That’s right, Gees, the 1988 Volvo station wagon 240 DL has a phat system. My old stereo sucked – the speakers were quiet and crackle-y and the tape adapter for my mp3 player would sometimes skip over to just one channel… it was bad news bears. So I went to Circuit City and found a new Aiwa head unit and two new front speakers. The head unit has a cd player, radio tuner, and a auxilary input so I can plug my mp3 playa directly into it… it rules. I love it… I’ve used all of its functions and everything sounds like heaven. I’m certainly gonna need a good stereo on the 17 hour drive to Denver next Monday. Colin is driving too, but he leaves a few days after I do. He told me he’s done the trip in 15 hours, but then again he has a Maxima and I have a ’88 Volvo. I can’t wait to get to Denver and move in. I have yet to buy a TV for my room… I need to pick one. I also gotta buy a sweet chair. So many choices to make! Well, I’ve gotta move outta my sister’s room because she is back in town today. Back into my old tiny room and uncomfortable bed… ::sigh::. Eh, I better go. I’ll add some pictures later.

Update: Justin Timberlake’s new single, “I’m Lovin’ It”, which was supposed to be on his next album, has been leaked onto the internet. Credit to my boy Collin in Portland for letting me know about the MTV.com article about him shooting the video for it. The song is very Rock Your Body-esque, a 70s-style dance club pop feel with a very modern hip hop flare. Dope jam, son! A quick Google search and I found some JT fansite with a high quality mp3 direct download. I reccomend all Timberlake fans go listen. ::tips fedora, slidesteps away::
