Last weekend I flew to DC for Passover. I got to Denver International and got my boarding pass, gate A39. I got to the terminal and was running a little bit late, looked up at the sign and thought, great, just my luck, my gate is the farthest one. Turns out I had plenty of time to get to the gate, but go figure it was the last gate on the long hallway. But, looking on the bright side of things as I always do… I got to ride not one but two moving walkways! Weeee! Oh, the small joys of life.
It was great to see my family, and to hang with one of my best friends in the world, Ed. Since he never comes home for breaks or summer, I hadn’t seen him in what seemed like forever. I saw him for about 2 days over last summer break, but then he went right back to DC and his interning job. It’s weird, whenever we see each other, it’s as if we’ve been hanging out every day for the last month. There are no formalities or uncomfort, we’re just… back in it. What’s up dude, nothing, ok, adventures time. It’s great.
My dad and I took the Metro into town. There’s something I really love about public transportation. I think it’s just that it brings so many different people together; every shape and color and socioeconomic class we have in our fine country. The blue mohawked punk couple with the Ramones messenger bags, the elderly hispanic lady with the grocery bag, the painfully well-groomed 30something black guy in the suit going back to the office after lunch. It’s one of the most diverse places in the country – any and all forms public transportation. I strongly recommend it. And it saves energy! Yeah, sorry, we’re doing renewable energies in my Tech 21 class and it’s sort of on my mind. So yay for that.
Ed and I went to Steak n Egg with a few of his friends at 3am, damn I love that place. It’s about a 20 minute walk from campus, and open 24 hours. It’s a ridiculously greasy spoon breakfast joint, you may remember it from the last time I went to DC, exactly one year ago. Damn that is some tasty stuff. Ed has a radio show at American University like I have one here at DU. I joined him for the show, and he introduced me to a colorful character by the name of Cosmic Killjoy. Gees, this fellow is an experience. Ed was rummaging through their CD stacks to organize them and he stumbled upon this… ahem… music. He played it for me. It started out as so-so future-y techno trance, and then entered the singer, Jason Faneros. He sounds like one of those rejects on American Idol that are so bad that they replay Simon destroying them over and over because they’re such an easy target. This kid is the whiniest, worst singer ever. When I first heard it, I thought it was a joke. We were so amused by this crap we went searching for this fool on the internet and sure enough, he has a website. We got his AIM screen name and talked to him for a little while, told him we were big fans and that we’d love to have him call into the station so we could interview him on the air. We couldn’t stop laughing just reading the dumb crap that this kid said to us. We were so close to getting him to call him, but he had to “go do a show”. Riiiiight. I guarantee that us listening to a few songs on his “album” is one of the first times the CD has ever been played. Anywhere. So, go check out his website, and oh, no tour dates, big surprise. If you contact him, don’t tell him that you heard about him from g27, because I don’t want him to read this and possibly ruin any chances we have to eventually talk to him on the radio. Thanks guys.
Oh yeah, April 22nd is my birthday! It’s gonna be really weird not to be a teenager anymore. The vast majority of my memories in life have taken place while I’ve been a teenger. I would say that I’m going into a new stage in my life, but screw that, I’m just an older kid. 20 is a pretty big birthday. I updated my wishlist in hopes that some generous souls get me some cool crap. It’s a very rare occurance, but when it happens, holy crap is it cool. The few people that have been really generous have certainly earned their prestigious spots on my coolest g27 fans ever page. Rock on, Gees. I’m out for now, gotta work on my Flash project.
Oh yeah! As many of you know, I shaved my head over spring break with Keegan, a 6 year old that I have been babysitting for since I was in 8th grade, who was diagnosed with Leukemia. Well, he’s in remission! Yay! Thank you to all the Gees out there who prayed for him.
