legit gigs

My birthday is this Sunday! The big 2-3. I haven’t really given much thought as to how I’m gonna celebrate. Probably just go out with the gentlemen or something. Do a bunch of drugs. You know me… waaaay into the drugs. Mostly meth. That stuff is delicious.

Lots of standup news. As I organize my thoughts for this post, I realize it all sort of revolves around Adam.

Dick Black (his stage name, for standup, not porn) started a new room at a club called DC10. It’s 6 blocks from my apartment which is very convenient, and it’s super duper hip… looks like the inside of a fancy schmancy airplane. The first show was featuring Adam Cayton-Holland and Greg Baumhauer. I posted an event on Facebook, a handful of people came, and I got to open for Greg! Considering the size of the crowd, I did really well. Afterwards, Adam told me that he was impressed and proud. He’s one of my favorite local comics and his feedback means the world to me. I told him so. Without sounding creepy. I hope.

adam.jpgI have just been confirmed as a contestant in the 2007 ComedyWorks New Faces contest. 3 rounds, 108 comics. Adam told me that he placed 3rd after only 3 months of standup, and while he had great material, he was still very uncomfortable being on stage. He’s been watching me and said that I’m going to kick ass in the contest. I can’t wait to hit the stage. I want to win so badly, and I think I’ve got a real shot.

I think I’m gonna make a little sidebar addition to g27 saying where and when I’ll be doing standup.

Because this post doesn’t have enough to do about standup, I got put on the bill as a special guest for the next Los Comicos Super Hilariosos!!! Three exclamation points. You deserve it, sentence. LCSH is how I was introduced to the Denver comics – you may remember from several posts ago, I met Adam, Greg, and the guys after a Los Comicos show at the Orange Cat. 2 weeks later, I did my first set. Now, 6 months later, I’m performing with those same comics at the Orange Cat for Los Comicos. 5 of the best Denver comics, and me. I’m beyond excited. It’s an absolute honor.

I’ve been talking to Brittni at the front desk of the Oxford as much as possible… brightens my already shining day. She’s half sweetheart and half goofball. Like a tasty fruity beverage, mixed with precision. And a sport coat. And name tag that changes every day. Recently, Katie the sales manager has been hovering around the desk and giving me death stares whenever I’m around. What a crapface! I want to get a burrito from around the corner at Illegal Pete’s, then walk up to her, throw it up in the air so she looks at it all distracted-like, and then slap her. KwaBAM! Like that! Don’t be a douche, I’ll say, in my most persuasive and threatening voice. I might even catch the burrito on its way down.

But if I don’t, it was worth it.
