Personal Blog
Finally all moved in to my room here at DU… and done with RTA training! 2 long weeks of 9-5 talking about computer crap that I already know. Whatever – it’s money. I haven’t had any time to do anything I really need or want to do, but I have this weekend completely off, so I finally have some time to post, get my TV fixed, register to vote(I encourage all 18+ Gees do this immediately), unpack all my stuff, and fix up my room. Yay for free time.
I love my new room. I’ve got a single on the 10th floor of Centennial Towers, connected to a kitchen and bathroom, connected to a double room… and if you read my last few posts, you’d know that Jon and Jon are living there – the drummer and guitarist of To The Rescue! Hell yeah! I already went to Jonny B’s house one night so we could practice – and we rocked the house. We’ve got 3 new songs in the works, and I bought a Shure SM58 mic and I’m using Jonny B’s acoustic amp, and he just bought an electric guitar – now all we need is an electric amp for him and we’ll have enough of our own equipment to not have to borrow anyone else’s for practice. He just got a job at a Pro Audio shop teaching guitar for $30/hour, so we should have everything we need in a little under 2 months. Roooock! I can do some low-level recording in my dorm room, so watch out for some rough demos coming from us soon.
I’ve been the only person on my whole dorm floor for the last 2 weeks – and freshman move into their dorms on Monday, but transfers, early arrivals and exchange students have been moving in the last few days. Yesterday, I get a knock on my door, and I assume it to be an RA friend of mine or something. I open the door, and I’m starting at somebody’s freaking belt buckle. What the hell? I look up to see a 6’8″ dude standing there, hand outstretched to greet me. Turns out his name is Matt and he’s from England. He’s cool as hell! We hung out a bit and I told him about DU, and we compared cultures (they
don’t have free refills – what the hell is that about?!) Anyway, I went to the ResLife BBQ and played some frisbee, ate some hotdogs, and came home to the dorm. There were a few kids walking around my hallway, and I knew they weren’t RAs, so I asked if they needed help with something. They told me(in assorted accents) that they were international students looking for Matt, and I told them that I was gonna hang with him so let me know when you find him. They found him right away and invited me to his room for a drink(they all drink and have been since they were around 14… alcohol isn’t a big deal in Europe), so I brought some Mountain Breeze(thank you Safeway for the cheapo store brand) and we stayed up til 3am talking about our languages and cultures and such. They’re from all over! Italy, England, France, Holland, and Spain. Ambra and Francisco, the kids from Italy, are cool as hell. Ambra adds “-uh” to every word she speaks in English… like “I bit-uh mai lip-uh.” Hilarious and adorable. Francesco is smooth as hell and loves Italian reggae(they have it there!). I call those two “the mafia”. Overall the group is cool as hell, and it looks like I’m gonna be hanging with them a lot this year – especially since Matt is on my floor and he seems like my kinda guy… very laid back and funny and polite and kinda crude. He’s a good dude. The girls are all cute and their accents just make them cuter… it’s great. I love my new international friends! Now I’m just waiting for all the freshman girls to move in and I’ll be one happy Peet. New pics in the gallery – it’s working a bit better now, at least it’s giving links… my host is still being dumb about my php GD library… so thumbnails should be created on-the-fly again soon.

Nice to see you posting again. I think your new room looks great, and your new Euro friends seem cool. I used to know some guys from Italy, and they were all cool.
Hope you have a great semester!
